Merged two existing L.A. schools for art and music, Walt Disney and his brother Roy Disney established CalArts in 1961,  a new school for nurturing future generations of creative talent: a multidisciplinary “community of the arts” built around the real-life experience of working artists instead of the conventions of the academy. Moreover, the school would remove the walls separating the creative disciplines and encourage artists from different branches to mix and collaborate as a way of sparking new ideas and methods. CalArts offers programs in art, design, film, music, theater and dance. CalArts is an comprehensive art institute including six schools of Art, Critical Studies, Dance, Film/Video, Music, and Theater.

http://www.artcenter.edu/academics/undergraduate-degrees/interaction-design/overview.html

RISD Museum

https://risdmuseum.org/
The RISD Museum was founded on the belief that art, artists, and the institutions that support them play pivotal roles in promoting broad civic engagement and creating more open societies.
Established in 1877 as part of a vibrant creative community, the RISD Museum stewards works of art representing diverse cultures from ancient times to the present. We interpret our collection with the focus on the maker and we deeply engage with art and artists, presenting ideas and perspectives that can be inspiring and complex. We aspire to create an accessible and inclusive environment that builds meaningful relationships across all communities.
RISD Museum has 59 galleries. The collection currently contains more than 100,000 works of art and design dating from ancient times to today including paintings, sculpture, decorative arts, costume and textiles, and furniture from all over the world. Of these objects, 3,128 of them are on view in the Museum now, 81,641 of them are available online, and there are 4,030 recent acquisitions.
The RISD Museum provides free access to digital images of public domain materials in the collection for any purpose. We want our collection, scholarship, and interpretive content to be accessed, distributed, and reused by everyone.
