Established in 1886, the Minneapolis College of Art and Design is a preeminent art and design in the region of northwest of America. Today MCAD is a strong national leader in fine arts, design, entrepreneurship, and sustainability education. MCAD's student body includes more than 800 students from 45 states and 15 countries. Of these, 50% are enrolled in Design, 38% in Media Arts, 10% in Fine Arts, and the remaining 2% in MCAD's new Arts Entrepreneurship Department. 42% are receiving the Pell Grant.

MCAD campus, which shares a block with the Minneapolis Institute of Art, comprises classrooms, professional facilities, galleries, student housing complexes, artist studios, and a sculpture garden. The modernist Main Building is one of the only buildings in the United States designed by Pritzker Prize–winning architect Kenzo Tange, and the historical Julia Morrison Memorial Building is more than a century old.

• 产品设计

        从手机壳、水瓶外形以及各种工业产品的设计，几乎每一个与人互动的人造物品——无论多么普通——都受到了产品设计师的影响。明尼阿波里斯是个悠久的工业城市，有多达20多家大企业的总部都在这个城市，如Target，BestBuy，3M等。在MCAD的产品设计专业为这些大企业服务，设计出无数鼓舞人心的日常产品。作为这个专业的学生将学习：

• 家具设计

        MCAD的家具设计专业，学生要学习焊接、喷砂、钻、缝纫和更多技能。使用所有能想象到的工具和机械，创造真正的家具，考虑功能、风格及舒适度。作为一名家具设计专业的学生，将掌握以下知识:

1. 发展概念家具的设计和技能

• 创业研究

        创业研究主要通过现实世界中基于客户的项目，连接商业、广告、艺术、设计和可持续发展等内容，研究在不断发展的经济环境中的成功模式。这是MCAD在理学学士课程中唯一的专业。MCAD是该地区唯一开设创业研究项目的美术与设计学院。作为一名创业研究专业的学生会学习以下几个方面的知识:

• Comic Art

MCAD's unique comic art major is for students who are passionate about storytelling and imagery and want to be in a city that has a strong—and ever-growing—comic scene. A Comic Art student will have following academic training:

• Experiment with conventional and experimental aspects of comic storytelling

• Gain foundational skills in a variety of creative media

• Explore traditional and digital comic formats

• Acquire the skills and knowledge for a professional career in comics

• Product Design

Minneapolis is a city where many industry headquarters is located such as Target, Best Buy, 3M. MCAD has successfully designed and managed this program with many of these companies. In MCAD's product design major student will master the interplay of design, usability, and manufacturing to create inspiring everyday products. As a Product Design Major Student Will:

• Develop and refine your ideas about how products work, look, and feel in two-, three-, and four-dimensional sketches, in a variety of media

• Build models, functional prototypes, and digital representations to test your ideas

• Communicate your ideas in compelling ways to clients, users, manufacturers, investors, and business partners

• Understand the historic, economic, and environmental factors impacting product design

• Advocate for the person who will use the product, even when they are not the one buying it

• Gain foundational skills in a variety of creative media

• Acquire the skills and knowledge for a professional career in a variety of fields.

• Furniture Design

In this program student will get to spend days welding, sandblasting, drilling, sewing, and more. With access to all of tools and machinery student could ever imagine, create real furniture pieces that consider function, style, and comfort. As a Furniture Design Major Student Will:

• Develop your technical and conceptual furniture design skills

• Hone your traditional craft techniques while also exploring new materials and technology

• Gain foundational skills in a variety of creative media

• Acquire the skills and knowledge for a professional career in your chosen field

• Entrepreneurial Studies

This major equips student to succeed in a constantly evolving economy through real-world, client-based projects that connect business, advertising, art, design, and sustainable development. This is MCAD's only major within the bachelor of science program as well as MCAD only art and design college with an entrepreneurial studies program in the region. As an Entrepreneurial Studies major student Will:

• Work with real clients on real projects

• Build your technical and conceptual advertising skills

• Hone your creative problem-solving skills

• Gain experience in project management and the agency setting

• Learn to clearly communicate ideas, both visually and verbally

• Network with successful business professionals
